The Grasshopper and the Ant
SPECIAL FOCUS: Science – Insect Study
Calliope Puppets centers a science based show around this classic Aesop’s fable in order to study the fascinating world of insects. In this interactive and highly visual presentation, students will learn about body parts and metamorphosis, adaptation and survival, the food chain and ecology from puppets of six different orders of insects, along with several non-insects. Many thoughtful audience participation opportunities invite scientific inquiry as large, colorful hand and rod puppets magnify the cast to easily visible proportions, with the industrious ants seen hard at work in their underground tunnels as shadow puppets. The fantastic finale features the grasshopper in mask, playing fiddle with an audience band. Have fun seeing a traditional tale brought to life, and learn about some of the most successful animals on earth!
“Your visit was a wonderful experience for our students! They not only were entertained and included in the performance, but they were informed and educated in a fun and delightful manner. We’d love to have you back!”
