Teacher Workshops

CALLIOPE PUPPETS TEACHER WORKSHOPS offer classroom tested methods to motivate your students right away. Have fun learning through a hands-on experience to bring to your classroom:

FINDING THE STORY:

Puppetry as Natural Motivator and Assessment Tool

MOTIVATE COOPERATIVE LEARNING AND CREATIVE WRITING FOR YOUR CURRICULUM

Experience an interactive format to motivate learning across the curriculum. Through a collaborative learning process, students research and create a sequential composition of work for presentation with quickly constructed shadow puppets in classroom performances for peers. As students find the element of story (sequential events) across the curriculum, they create contextual connections promoting memorable content comprehension. The use of puppetry serves as both motivation for and assessment of learning, as well as enhancing skills in problem solving, listening,, and decision-making.

The workshop packet includes the Story Development Form, for group focus and story composition, the Project Checklist, for project clarity and critique, and the Rubric, with assessment criteria.

This learning format has been utilized successfully to engage students from ages seven and up in study of foreign language, literature, social studies, conflict resolution, history, science, and more. Creatively spark the potential of your students through these simple techniques to use right away.

For teachers of students ages seven and UP.

Variations on this workshop have been presented at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and for the United States Embassy English Language Specialist Program in Costa Rica, Brunei, and Indonesia, as well as various regional conferences.

FUN WITH FEELINGS:

Expression of Emotions Through Movement of Hand Puppets

PROMOTE SELF AWAREMNESS AND SELF CONTROL

This interactive workshop, applicable to a wide age range, leads participants through creative dramatics games, followed by puppet manipulation exercises, and group improvisation activities. Working in pairs and groups, participants will study everyday human body language and its use in bringing to life a believable puppet. The workshop will culminate with group performances of short, improvised skits.
