Four classes from the International School of Louisiana visited Calliope Puppet Center on the last two Mondays to experience a performance of Louisiana folk tales, which they were studying at school, as well as an introduction to the world wide art form of puppetry through demonstrations of puppets in the Puppet Museum!

Take a summer trip south of the border – and only have to travel to the west bank of the Mississippi River! Calliope Puppets usually travels far and wide at the end of the summer, but this year, the puppets stay home, enjoying their own community! Come see three fun and lively stories collected from past travels in Guatemala, Argentina, and Mexico! Remember, you are welcome to relax and wear your pajamas for this festive before bed event!

In celebration of the fun and playful spirit of Mardi Gras, Calliope Puppets presents a program including “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “The Frog Prince”. Wear your pajamas – and some beads!

The Frog Prince
Sunday, December 13th, 2009Puppet Tales Workshop: January 9, 2010 will feature the Brothers Grimm tale The Frog Prince.
Participants will listen to the original story, then make sock and fabric hand puppets of either a princess or a prince, and a frog. Students will learn how to manipulate a hand puppet to show emotions and actions.Working in teams the participants will use a studio puppet theater to present the story for each other, and for parents at the end of the workshop.
Class limit: 25
AGES: 6 – 12.

Educator Resource Night

Teachers of any grade level are invited for a monthly night:
• for workshops in quick, simple, inexpensive, and effective activities to use right away to engage students across the curriculum through puppetry
• to receive appreciation for their creativity in their daily efforts to reach each student
• to encourage problem solving and idea sharing with educators from other schools and grade levels
• to access materials, books, and general information on the history and use of puppetry
• to relax, have fun, be energized and inspired.
Each night will feature a different short hands-on workshop, including time for experimentation with it and for discussion. Also, open to suggestions in advance and during workshop on specific techniques, curriculums, and issues you would like addressed. This is a working studio with a wide variety of tools, equipment, materials, books, and other resources available.
ADVANCE REGISTRATION APPRECIATED – to ensure sufficient materials, chairs, refreshments, etc.
